Signs, Signs, Everywhere Signs

I was all excited this weekend about finally completing 50 miles on the PJF Trail.  I went into Saturday with 44 miles, and I knew I could make it happen.  I did three plus on the first day, and I planned to knock out the rest today.  (It’s Monday, but I was off today because I worked Saturday.)  I logged my miles yesterday, and I went into the ticker today to add the three miles I had just finished this afternoon.

Lo and behold, the miles from yesterday weren’t there!  Then it hit me…wait!  How many other days’ miles are not in there?!  Thankfully I’ve been writing everything down as well as keeping track on the ticker.  (If you know me IRL, this does not come as a surprise to you.)  I added it all up, and guess what?  I’m actually close to 60 miles!  I’m at 59.8 as of today.  If I’d known that, I probably would have made it another 0.2 this afternoon.  Oh, well.

I keep watching the children. They have yet to do anything that exciting. The sign seems a bit full of itself if you ask me.

Anyhow, I promised pictures of my journey, and so far I’ve posted maybe two.  So here is a pic of me today near this sign I see every day on my street.  Do not adjust your screen.  I really am that red in the face.  I get that red if it’s over 65 degrees outside.  Also, I am wearing that “Missouri Cattlemen Association” visor ironically.  Like Ashton Kutcher wears trucker hats.

Somehow surpassing 50 miles seems like a really major milestone to me on this project.  Like, okay, I only have to do this 21 more times.  I can totally do that.

There are times when I’m frustrated with myself that I haven’t made it farther already.  But you know what?  Six weeks ago it nearly killed me to walk the 1.6 mile loop of my neighborhood.  Today I easily did three miles.  My shins didn’t hurt, I wasn’t winded (we won’t discuss my red face).  I enjoyed the walk, and I could have done more.

I read something this week that said, “If you can run three miles, you can run six.  It might be hard.  It will hurt.  But you can do it.”  I figure that applies to walking also.  I think it’s time I strive for that four mile mark in a day.  Maybe next weekend.
