Something Beautiful

One part of my job requires me to visit child care programs on a regular basis.  I’m always there to help, never to get anyone in trouble.  I’m not one of those people.  Teachers and kids alike are usually happy to see me.

This morning I went into a classroom, and a four-year-old girl asked me to come play with her and the dollhouse.  She didn’t have dolls though.  She had stuffed animals.  (My kind of kid.  I hate dolls.  They’re creepy.)  So we played with the baby and mama monkey, the baby and mama giraffe, the zebra.  There was only one zebra.  I don’t know why.

At one point she put them all to bed and told me they were sleeping.  I asked her if she thought they were dreaming.  “Yes,” she replied.

“What do you think they are dreaming about?” I asked.

“They are dreaming about something beautiful.”  Is that not the cutest thing she could have answered?!

Then a big grin spread across her face, and she looked up at me and said, “They are dreaming about YOU!”  No, that  is the cutest thing she could have said.

Sometimes I cannot believe they actually pay me to do this job.
