Boxes, Boxes, Beauty Boxes!

I got a nice surprise in the mail a few weeks ago, an Allure Beauty Box I didn’t order.  I was puzzled as to how it happened, and I’m still not entirely sure.  I got an email a couple days later saying I was selected to receive a free box.  No more info than that.  I do subscribe to Allure magazine, and it’s a fun read if you’re into beauty stuff.

Allure actually does three types of boxes, a monthly $15 one, an annual Best of Beauty Box for $45 (which is said to be a $125 value), and a quarterly Beauty Thrills Box for $59.95 (a $260 value).  Sadly, I got the $15 one.  I mean, I guess I can’t be sad, because it was free.  Never mind.

Allure Beauty Box December 2016

So, what did I think of it?  Well, it comes in a nice box, similar to the Target boxes, only red.  And the products are higher end, all items I had never tried before, and a few I’d never even heard of.  Here’s what I got:

Klorane Dry Shampoo 1 oz.
Spongelle Body Wash Infused Buffer in Freesia Pear 2.5 oz.  (I haven’t tried this yet, but it smells really nice.)
Tatcha Soothing Silk Body Butter 1 oz.  (This is blue.  Like the cream inside is blue.  Very blue.  But it’s nice and silky and smells good.)
Mally Volumizing Mascara full size.  (I haven’t tried this yet.  I have a LOT of mascaras.  Seems like a lot of boxes have included mascara in the last year.)
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask 1 oz.
Freematic Eye Shadow in shade 62 Kristi.  This is full size and a nice shimmery neutral.

So, my assessment?  It’s nice stuff.  Definitely worth the $15 price tag.  Will I be subscribing?  Probably not.  It’s been super fun to try some higher end products, but I’m more of a Walmart/Target gal when I’m buying.

Walmart Winter 2017 Beauty Box

That said, I also got the Winter 2016 Walmart box this week!  This one is only $5 and it comes quarterly.  You can subscribe here.  The box comes in two versions, Classic and Trendsetter, based upon your age (I believe 35 is the magic number).

The past couple times, I felt like I got gypped, as the Trendsetter one had cooler stuff, and I get the old lady Classic one.  But this time, I feel we mature women won.  The Trendsetter box had a lot of the same things, minus the full size mascara.  This is what I got:

Ken Paves You are Beautiful shampoo, conditioner, and conditioning mask foil pack.
Aveeno Moisturizing Body Yogurt in Vanilla and Oats 0.5 oz.
Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume Mascara full size (see? More mascara!).
Ponds Rejuveness Anti-wrinkle cream 1.75 oz.
Curel Hydratherapy Wet Skin Moisturizer 2 oz. ($4 coupon included)
There is also a random $1.50 coupon for Gray Away Root Concealer

My take on it?  The mascara alone sells for $7.65 at the store.  Done.  Worth the $5 right there.  And I mean, come on, it’s five bucks four times a year.  It’s cheap and fun.

Getting these beauty boxes in the mail is like a present for myself.  They are affordable, and it’s fun to see what’s included each time.  There is always something in there I’ve never tried before, and usually it’s great.  It’s like someone who loves got me the perfect gift each time.

(I don’t get anything if you click on any of the links in this post.  I paid for the Walmart box myself, and the Allure one came to me by magic.  I have not been paid for my review of either box.)
