Perfect

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.

I think my dogs are perfect.  I truly do.  Sometimes I look at them and my heart is so completely full of love for them that I think I’ll burst.  I adore them so completely, there is no way I could possibly love them more.  I tell them daily how wonderful they are and how much I love their feet and their ears and their tails and their sweet hearts.

So one day I was having one of these moments of doggie perfection, and it hit me…this is how parents feel about their children.  Right?

I don’t have children of my own (that’s a story for another day).  I love children, and I’ve made a career out of teaching and caring for and advocating for children.  There are children in my life I love immeasurably.  Given the love I feel for children who aren’t mine, and the love I feel for my four-legged babies, I can only imagine how much I could love my own child.  It boggles the mind.

But this boggles my mind more.  Do my parents feel this way about me?

Do they adore my fingers and my toes and my heart and my mind?  Do they look at me and see sheer perfection and want to burst from the love they feel for me?

Oh my god.  I bet they do.  And I bet your parents feel that way about you.
